As born-again Christians, God expects us to believe in His ability to see us through every situation life throws our way. He expects us to have a personal conviction that no matter what happens, all things will work out together for our good because we are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
However, most often than not, this is easier said than done. This is because, in the heat of trials, most of us get discouraged and lose faith in the saving power of God.
To prevent this from happening, we need to constantly meditate on His word and apply ourselves to it as we go about our daily routines.
Here are some 30+ Bible verses about believing in yourself to help strengthen your faith when trouble shows up at your doorstep:
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and of good courage; do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
1 Samuel 17:45–50: David’s courage while facing Goliath
“Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have deified. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.’
So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone, and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, struck the Philistine, and killed him. But there was no sword in David’s hand. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath, killed him, and cut off his head with it.”
2 Chronicles 20:20
“So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, ‘Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.’”
Isaiah 35:4
“Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.’”
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Daniel 3:16–17: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego refuse to worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s image.
“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God, whom we serve, is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the god image which you have set up.’”
Daniel 3:26–27: God delivers Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego from the fiery furnace.
“Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, ‘Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out and come here.’ Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their heads was not singed, nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not in them.”
Daniel 6:16–17: Daniel is thrown into the den of lions.
“So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, ‘Your God, whom you serve continually, will deliver you.’ Then a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signets of his lords, that the purpose concerning Daniel might not be changed.”
Daniel 6:19–21: Daniel saved from the lions.
“Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions. And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?’
Then Daniel said to the king, ‘O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lion’s mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.’”
Zechariah 8:9
“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Let your hands be strong, you who have been hearing in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, who spoke in the day the foundation was laid for the house of the LORD of hosts, that the temple might be built.’'”
Matthew 17:20
“So Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’’”
Matthew 21:21-22
“So Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.’”
Mark 9:23
“Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’”
Mark 11:22-24
“So Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask for when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.’”
John 11:40
“Jesus said to her, Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory of God?’”
1 Corinthians 16:13
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
Ephesians 6:10
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”
2 Timothy 2:1
“You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”
Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
