17 kinds of people who will not enter heaven according to the Bible

According to the Bible, the following kinds of people will not enter the kingdom of heaven: the unrighteous; fornicators; idolaters; homosexuals; sodomites; the covetous; drunkards; revilers; extortioners; the cowardly; the unbelieving; the abominable; murderers; sexually immoral; sorcerers; and liars (1 Corinthians 6:9–10; Revelation 21:8).

Let us examine what the Bible has to say about these guys.

1. The unrighteous people will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, the unrighteous are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who are the unrighteous?

The book of 2 Corinthians 5:21 refers to the righteous as those whose sins have been forgiven after believing in the saving power of Christ Jesus. The scripture says:

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Therefore, the unrighteous are individuals who are yet to commit their lives to Christ Jesus.

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5: “Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

Consequently, everyone who will not have committed his life to Christ Jesus by the time of His return will not enter the kingdom of God.

2. Fornicators will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, fornicators are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who are fornicators?

A fornicator refers to “an unmarried person who engages in illicit sexual intercourse” (https://www.yourdictionary.com/fornicator).

The Bible strongly condemns fornication, going by the following scriptures:

2 Corinthians 12:21

“Lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced.”

Galatians 5:19

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and lewdness.”

Ephesians 5:5

“For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of God.”

Colossians 3:5

“Therefore put to death your members that are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

1 Timothy 1:8–11

“But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.”

Hebrews 13:4

“Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed is undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

3. Idolaters will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, idolaters are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who are idolaters?

An idolater is “a person who worships an idol or idols” (https://www.yourdictionary.com/idolater).

So, when you follow, serve, and worship other gods instead of The One True God, The Creator of everything seen and unseen, you automatically become an idolater.

Here are some scriptures that indicate to us that God does not tolerate idolaters:

Exodus 20:3-5

“You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.”

Deuteronomy 8:19

“Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.”

Psalm 81:9

“There shall be no foreign god among you, nor shall you worship any foreign god.”

Jeremiah 25:6

“Do not go after other gods to serve them and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you.”

Matthew 4:10

“Then Jesus said to him, Away with you, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’’”

4. Homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, homosexuals are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who are homosexuals?

A homosexual is “a person who is sexually attracted primarily to other members of the same sex” (https://www.yourdictionary.com/homosexual).

The following scriptures clearly indicate to us how God feels about homosexuals:

Leviticus 18:22

“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13

“If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They will surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”

Romans 1:26-27

“For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error, which was due.”

5. Sodomites will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, sodomites are among the people who will not enter heaven. But what is it with the Sodomites, and why did God destroy them? The answer lies in Ezekiel 16:49–50. The scripture says:

“As I live, says the Lord God, ‘neither your sister Sodom nor her daughters have done as you and your daughters have done. Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore, I took them away as I saw fit.’”

Therefore, if the above-mentioned things describe your lifestyle, then know for sure that you will not enter heaven. This is because God destroyed the Sodomites for practicing such things.

6. Thieves will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, thieves are among the people who will not enter heaven.

A thief is a person who steals, especially secretly, things that belong to others (https://www.yourdictionary.com/thief).

Here are scriptures that indicate to us that God is against theft:

Exodus 20:15

“You shall not steal.”

Jeremiah 7:8-11

“Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, and then come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations’? Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says the LORD.”

Hosea 4:2

“By swearing and lying, killing and stealing, and committing adultery, they break all restraint, with bloodshed upon bloodshed.”

Ephesians 4:28

Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”

7. Covetous people will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, the covetous are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who are the covetous?

A covetous person is one “having or showing a great desire to possess something belonging to someone else” (Oxford Languages Dictionary).

God prohibits covetousness, as depicted in the following scriptures:

Exodus 20:17

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Proverbs 12:12

“The wicked covet the catch of evil men, but the root of the righteous yields fruit.”

Proverbs 13:11

“Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase.”

Micah 2:2

“They covet fields and take them by violence, as well as houses, and seize them. So they oppress a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.”

James 4:2

“You lust and do not have. You murder, covet, and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.”

8. Drunkards will not enter the kingdom of heaven

According to the Bible, drunkards are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who are the drunkards?

A drunkard is “a person who is habitually drunk” (Oxford Languages Dictionary).

The Bible teaches against drunkenness, as depicted in the following scriptures:

Proverbs 23:20-21

Do not mix with winebibbers or with gluttonous eaters of meat; for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.”

Luke 21:34

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.”

Romans 13:13

“Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts.”

The Bible speaks against this behavior, as demonstrated in the following scriptures:

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”

Ephesians 5:3-4

“But fornication and all uncleanliness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.”

Colossians 3:8

“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.”

Colossians 4:6

Titus 3:9

“But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.”

James 4:11-12

“Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one lawgiver who is able to save and destroy. Who are you to judge another?”

1 Peter 2:1-3

According to the Bible, extortioners are among the people who will not enter heaven. But who is an extortioner?

An extortioner is a person who obtains something by force, threats, or other unfair means (Oxford Languages Dictionary).

God abhors extortioners, as shown in the following scriptures:
