“Our heavenly Father, I come before your throne of mercy with a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, wipe out my sexual sin.
For I have transgressed against Your word by having illicit sex.
Against You, You alone, have I sinned and done this evil in Your sight.
I now sincerely plead for Your forgiveness.
Wash me thoroughly. I beseech you, deliver me from this iniquity and cleanse me from this sin.
Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice.
Thank You for forgiving me and making me whole.
In Jesus name, I do pray, believing and trusting.
Amen” (Based on the prayer of David recorded in Psalm 51)
Types of sexual sins
The Bible teaches against sexual sin because its effects have far-reaching consequences compared to any other sin man commits. In fact, the Bible says that whoever commits sexual sin actually sins against his own body. This is according to 1 Corinthians 6:18, which says:
“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.”
Sexual sin may take either of the following forms, as recorded in Leviticus 18:
Sexual intercourse between a man and his mother (Leviticus 18:7)
“The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his stepmother (Leviticus 18:8)
“The nakedness of your father’s wife you shall not uncover; it is your father’s nakedness.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his son’s daughter (Leviticus 18:10)
“The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for theirs is your own nakedness.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his daughter’s daughter (Leviticus 18:10)
“The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for theirs is your own nakedness.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his daughter-in-law (Leviticus 18:15)
“You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife; you shall not uncover her nakedness.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his sister (Leviticus 18:9)
“The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or elsewhere, their nakedness you shall not uncover.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his step-sister (Leviticus 18:9)
“The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or elsewhere, their nakedness you shall not uncover.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his aunt (Leviticus 18:12–14)
“You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is near kin to your father. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is near kin to your mother. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother. You shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his brother’s wife (Leviticus 18:16)
“You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his wife’s sister (Leviticus 18:18)
“Nor shall you take a woman as a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness while the other is alive.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and a woman during her monthly period (Leviticus 18:19)
Also, you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness as long as she is in her customary impurity.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and his neighbor’s wife (Leviticus 18:20)
Moreover, you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife to defile yourself with her.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and a fellow man (Leviticus 18:22)
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”
Sexual intercourse between a man and an animal (Leviticus 18:23)
“Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.”
Sexual intercourse between a woman and an animal (Leviticus 18:23)
“Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.”
Conclusion
The Bible teaches that he who confesses his sins and abandons them will be forgiven, but whoever hides his sin will not go unpunished. The prayer highlighted in this post is meant to help you confess and repent of sexual sin so that you may obtain mercy, forgiveness, and restoration from God. God bless you. Shalom.
